First Real Post!!

Well, I have had this blog for how long? And I have not posted anything!? My word! I'm not expecting anyone to follow this. I'm mainly doing this for my own benefit!

The first thing I want to talk about is the importance of sleep and how dangerous snacking is. Yes, as a college student, I should know this. However, late nights "studying" have taught me how quickly one can be zapped of strength. I have tendencies to procrastinate. I hesitate to label myself as a procrastinator because that is not what defines me.

Instead of studying, many times I'm chatting with friends in their rooms at the dorms. What usually comes with chatting? Eating. When you're snacking on chips, you may forget how many you have eaten. If you're going to eat while chatting with a friend, I suggest frozen grapes, strawberries, or dried fruit. They're crunchy and delicious!

Learn to manage your time wisely. Get the most important things done FIRST. Study first. It is hard, I know! Before you decide to put social life before homework, reconsider why you're going to school. When you put the most important things first, you not only learn more, but you find that you have more time. Rather than stressing over the amount of time you have left to write a paper, you're casually writing it because you have plenty of time to get it done.

When you procrastinate, you also tend to lose sleep. It just comes hand in hand, most of the time. I remember so vividly the late nights/early mornings when I wondered why I was even bothering with sleeping because I was only getting an hour, anyway. I spent so much money on coffee and energy drinks, it's not even funny. Plus, think of the extra calories I took in trying to stay awake during class! I had to buy something with caffeine and sugar to stay awake for class.

I tried to wake up early to exercise after late nights of studying, but I never felt motivated because I was extremely exhausted. The hours of sleep you get before midnight (I have been told) are actually more effective. This insight blew me out of the water because going to bed before midnight was extremely difficult for me. When I did manage to get to bed before 12, however, I woke up earlier and still felt more energized.

When I made time for exercise, I also felt better throughout the day. Going to bed early and waking up early isn't as bad as you think it is! It feels so good, actually!

So, these are my goals this new school year:
  • Don't procrastinate! If I think "Oh, I'll do it later." but I'm not doing anything at that moment, I will try harder to remember the importance of doing it NOW.
  • Go to bed! I won't stay up until 1 A.M. if I'm not doing anything productive! I will try harder to shoot for a bed time of 10 PM unless something interferes. (Yes, this is early, for me! But, I have learned my lesson.)
  • GET OUT OF BED! I won't hit the snooze button for an extra 30 minutes. It's just as hard to get out of bed 30 minutes later so I might as well just get out of bed and go exercise!
  • Eat more fruit, drink more water, eliminate sodas! Sodas are so bad for you. So are energy drinks! I can't completely cut them out of my diet right now, but I will slowly do so. Coffee doesn't even affect me, so I see no point in drinking it. Water, tea, and juice are the way to go!
